2015-2016 Season
Our 2015-2016 season included our mainstage production of classic musical INTO THE WOODS by Stephen Sondheim, a fully-staged performance of YELLOW FACE (written by AATP founder David Henry Hwang), and a cabaret exploring the history of Asian and Asian-American representation in musical theater.

What is identity, and who gets to define it? This question is the centerpiece of Tony-award winning playwright and Stanford alum David Henry Hwang's semi-autobiographical satire. After protesting the casting of white actor Jonathan Pryce as an Asian man in Miss Saigon, Hwang inadvertently casts a white actor in an Asian lead role and finds himself in an embarrassing, ironic, and hilarious position. Meanwhile, Hwang's father is caught in a political contribution scandal, and the two of them are forced to examine their relationship, their lives, and their heritage.
AATP is proud to present a reprisal of our 2013-2014 staged reading of acclaimed playwright David Henry Hwang's Yellow Face. Following our production of Into the Woods and our cabaret on the history of Asian-American representation, AATP's fully-staged production seeks to confront us with questions of identity and race: What is an Asian musical? Is it permissible to dress up as another race? Following the May 5th and 6th performances, AATP held post-show panels with the cast and several guest artists from the API and theater community. FALL 2015: 24-HOUR PLAY PROJECT
Co-Produced by Alex Aguilar '18, Connor Asercion '18, Charlie Yang '17
ABOUT THE SHOW
During the 24-Hour Play Project, AATP invited Stanford students to team up with their friends in small groups to create a small one-act play (eight to twelve minutes in length) within the span of a twenty-four hour period. First-time directors, producers, writers and actors were encouraged to attend. After being given a common theme, the groups were to be challenged to compose and rehearse an original play.
