ABOUT THE SHOW
The ultra-assimilated Wong family is as Chinese-American as apple pie: teenager Upton dreams of World of Warcraft superstardom while his sister Desdemona dreams of early admission to Princeton. Unfortunately, Upton's chores and homework get in the way of his 24/7 video gaming, and Desi's math grades don't fit the Asian-American stereotype. Then Upton comes up with a novel solution for both problems: he acquires a Chinese indentured servant, who harbors an American dream of his own. (adapted from laurenyee.com) CAST

FALL: "CONGRATS, YOU'VE BEEN (TYPE)CAST!": A CABARET
Featuring songs from hit musicals such as Into the Woods, Hairspray, Ragtime, Miss Saigon, The Secret Garden, The Light in the Piazza, The Addams Family, and Legally Blonde: the Musical, this cabaret explored issues of typecasting in musical theatre. Half of our repertoire included songs written for roles we think we would be typecast to sing, and the other half featured songs written for roles we would never get to play.
How does seeing a person who doesn't "look the part" affect how we respond to the story the song tells? Do certain songs only "work" if the actor looks a certain way? Who makes a fiercer Elle Woods: Reese Witherspoon or Praveen Ramesh? FEATURING Praveen Ramesh '14 Saya Jenks '16 Francesca Dawis '17 Preston Lim '17 Andrea Lim '18 |
WINTER: THE STANFORD MONOLOGUES
Conceived by AATP board member Jo Lee '17 | Directed By Praveen Ramesh '14, Lilian Kong '18, Adi Chang '18
Stanford Monologues showcases the writing of Stanford student writers as they explore conflicting personal identities. Oftentimes, the way others perceive us does not align with
the way we see ourselves. One of AATP's goals for the 2014-15 season is to reach beyond the Asian American community and find connections and shared experiences with other communities on campus.
