MAY 2012: THE SECRET TO RAISING SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN
By Deanna Tan
The age-old secret to raising successful children had been fiercely guarded until Amy Chua’s book on “Tiger Moms” made headlines in 2011. Now, just about every literate American can master these ropes too. But in a rapidly changing society like ours, are such timeworn methods still enough to guarantee a child’s success?
This original play by student playwright Deanna Tan examines several contemporary Asian American issues such as coming out in Asian families, parental pressure, and questions of image and identity, through the lens of one family’s struggle to understand each other and what it means to succeed.
